This role sits at the intersection of platform engineering, system integrations, and intelligent product development , and will play a key role in shaping how our products evolve.<br /><br />You will work closely with Product, Architecture, and cross-functional engineering teams to plan and deliver new features, lead development efforts, and ensure seamless integration across internal and external systems. This includes building robust APIs, event-driven services, and third-party integrations , while also contributing to emerging AI-powered capabilities within our platforms.<br /><br />The ideal candidate combines strong backend and frontend engineering skills with experience in distributed systems, integrations, and scalable architectures . JavaScript, TypeScript, Node.js, and GraphQL remain core requirements for this role.<br /><br />What You'll Do<br /><br />Design and development of scalable, service-based architectures (front-end and back-end), while remaining hands-on in coding and delivery<br /><br />Architect and implement system integrations across internal services and third-party platforms (REST, GraphQL, event streams, webhooks, ETL pipelines)<br /><br />Collaborate with Product to translate business requirements into technical solutions , defining scope, complexity, and dependencies<br /><br />Drive development across teams for services built in Node.js, TypeScript, JavaScript, and Python<br /><br />Design and maintain API contracts, data models, and integration patterns to ensure consistency and reliability across systems<br /><br />Build and optimize secure, high-performance, and highly available systems<br /><br />Contribute to AI-enabled features and workflows , including integration of ML models, LLM APIs, or intelligent automation pipelines<br /><br />Partner with architects to define system design, integration strategies, and reusable frameworks<br /><br />Produce clear technical documentation (architecture diagrams, data flows, API specs, integration patterns)<br /><br />Establish and enforce best practices in code quality, testing, and deployment<br /><br />Lead code reviews, approve merges, and mentor engineers across teams<br /><br />Troubleshoot complex production issues and drive resolution across distributed systems<br /><br />Oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of feature development—from design through deployment and monitoring<br /><br />What You Bring<br /><br />5+ years of experience building scalable, production-grade software systems across front-end and back-end<br /><br />Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field<br /><br />Strong expertise in JavaScript and TypeScript<br /><br />Proven experience with Node.js and GraphQL (required)<br /><br />Deep experience building and consuming RESTful APIs and distributed services<br /><br />Strong proficiency with tools and technologies such as Python, Docker, Git, SQL, and cloud-native architectures<br /><br />Hands‑on experience with GCP or AWS services (e.g., S3, CloudFront, EC2, RDS, Lambda, Batch)<br /><br />Experience designing and implementing system integrations (microservices, third-party APIs, event-driven architectures, messaging systems like Kafka/SQS)<br /><br />Ability to lead and deliver large, complex technical initiatives<br /><br />Strong understanding of software design patterns, system architecture, and data flow design<br /><br />Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts clearly<br /><br />Experience working in Agile/Kanban environments and a strong understanding of the SDLC<br /><br />Adaptability and a proactive mindset in fast-paced, evolving environments<br /><br />Nice to Have<br /><br />Experience working on or building tax, fintech, or compliance-related products (e.g., tax calculation engines, filing systems, regulatory platforms)<br /><br />Exposure to AI/ML engineering , including integrating LLM APIs, building data pipelines for ML workflows, or deploying AI-driven features<br /><br />Experience with data platforms, data pipelines, or analytics systems<br /><br />Familiarity with event-driven architectures and real-time data processing<br /><br />Experience designing multi-tenant or enterprise-grade SaaS platforms<br /><br />Background in integration-heavy environments (e.g., ERP, financial systems, external data providers)<br /><br />Salary Range<br /><br />$100,000 - $140,000 (CAD)<br /><br />Why You’ll Love Working at ShyftLabs<br />At ShyftLabs, your work matters.
