Expected compensation: 175,000.00 - 200,000.00 USD Per Year

HireArt is a modern staffing platform for companies to source, employ, and manage contract workers. Our goal is to bring a turnkey, full-stack software and service experience to an industry that is dominated by manual, cumbersome processes. We’re a ~75-person company with an experienced engineering team and a product that serves real customers every day. Our typical customers are fast growing tech companies, such as those building autonomous vehicles and LLMs.

We’re hiring a Senior Software Engineer to join our Feature Team as we scale delivery capacity across our core platform. This role is for an experienced senior engineer; someone who can learn business context, collaborate with the product team, own a feature end-to-end, and raise the effectiveness of their team.

About The Role

You’ll work on HireArt’s core staffing application - a large, modular Rails codebase with real production constraints. Work typically arrives as loosely defined problem statements. Senior engineers help bring context to those problems, shape solutions, clarify tradeoffs, and deliver changes that are easy for the next engineer to build on. You’ll sometimes lead initiatives, sometimes follow another senior engineer’s direction, and always be expected to communicate clearly, push back thoughtfully, and keep delivery moving.

What You'll Do

Own large product features end-to-end, from shaping the approach through delivery

Break down ambiguous problems into clear technical changes

Work closely with product partners to clarify requirements and push back on scope

Communicate clearly and often with teammates and manager regarding expectations for delivery

Review code with an eye toward maintainability, not just correctness

Write and maintain automated tests as a first-class responsibility

Improve legacy areas of the codebase incrementally and pragmatically

Use AI tools (Copilot, Claude, etc.) to increase throughput while remaining fully accountable for the code you ship

Our Tech Stack

Backend: Ruby on Rails 8.1

Frontend: React 18.3 (with some Stimulus / Turbo)

Datastores: PostgreSQL, Redis

Infrastructure: Heroku

CI/CD: GitHub Actions

Architecture: Modular monolith, engineers work across the stack

What "Senior" Means at HireArt

A Senior Engineer Here Is Trusted To

Own projects end-to-end

Coordinate with teammates contributing to the same epic

Make tradeoffs without perfect information

Improve team velocity, not just personal output

Senior engineers are not expected to operate on autopilot or wait to be told exactly what to do. Compared to a mid-level engineer, seniors proactively improve how work gets done. Compared to a staff engineer, seniors do less explicit culture reinforcement and organizational shaping.

On-call and Production Ownership

On-call is very limited

A dedicated on-call engineer escalates to the feature team ~10% of the time

Expected involvement in debugging production issues is low

Expectations around testing and code quality are high

Requirements

Significant, real-world Ruby on Rails experience

Experience owning large features end-to-end in a product organization

Strong practice of writing and maintaining automated tests

Comfortable working closely with product managers and stakeholders

Proven ability to work with remote teams while staying highly communicative and proactive

8–10 years of professional experience, or equivalent depth through impact

Nice-to-Have Experience

Leading work involving Stimulus / Turbo

Experience in entrepreneurial or early-stage environments

Strong end-to-end (E2E) testing practicesERP‑style data modeling or complex domain modeling

Staffing, HR, or marketplace domain experience

Interview Process

Candidates Can Expect To

Read and discuss a small Rails application

Identify impactful improvement opportunities

Walk through a past project in depth and defend (or critique) technical decisions

Be evaluated on clarity, humility, and impact—not just technical correctness

HireArt Offers a Benefits Package That Includes

Equity

Dental, medical, and vision for yourself and your dependents

Life and disability insurance

Paid Parental Leave

Work‑from‑home stipends, including:

Workspace/home office set-up

Company supplied Apple laptop

Phone/internet stipend

Uncapped PTO as well as paid office holidays

401(K) through Fidelity

This is a full‑time, permanent position with HireArt and is open to candidates who reside and are authorized to work in the United States and able to work during Eastern Time Zone business hours.

About Maximor

Most AI companies are building copilots.

Maximor is building the AI operating system for the CFO office. Our Audit-Ready AI Agents connect to a company's existing finance stack—ERPs, banks, billing, payroll, CRM, contracts, spreadsheets, email, and Slack—and automate the work behind behind the entire order to cash process, record to report process, treasury management, financial reporting and and audit readiness.

The goal isn't to help the finance team write better prompts.

The goal is for finance teams to review exceptions while AI does the rest.

What makes Maximor different is our Unified Finance Context—a financial understanding layer that captures transactions, policies, contracts, historical decisions, and accounting judgment. On top of it sit Audit-Ready AI Agents that can reason, explain their decisions, elevate uncertainty, and continuously improve.

We've raised $9M led by Foundation Capital, alongside BoldCap, Gaia Ventures, Aravind Srinivas (CEO of Perplexity), and finance leaders from Zuora, Ramp, Gusto, MongoDB, Zoom, and the Big Four.

What You'll Own

You won't own tickets—you'll own a piece of the future accounting stack.

Every senior engineer owns a finance domain (revenue, cash, close, reporting, payroll, fixed assets, tax, or controls) and ships it end-to-end with a pod of 2–3 engineers.

No PM writes your specs. No architecture committee approves your ideas. You work directly with controllers, accountants, and CFOs to understand the problem, then build the system that replaces the manual process.

Problems Worth Your Brain

How do you build AI agents that finance teams and auditors can trust? Verification, guardrails, observability, and evaluation systems for non-deterministic AI.

How do you give an agent the right financial context? Context engineering over transactions, ledgers, contracts, policies, and historical decisions—without bloat, drift, or data leakage.

How do you turn messy enterprise systems into a unified source of truth? Ingest, normalize, and reconcile data from ERPs, banks, payroll, billing platforms, CRMs, and email.

How do you orchestrate durable AI workflows in the real world? Long-running, replay-safe workflows across flaky, stateful enterprise systems.

How do you safely write back to systems of record? Idempotent, audit-ready updates to ERPs and financial systems with full traceability.

A Few Strong Opinions

The engineer who can’t operate AI agents fluently is becoming obsolete, fast. Fluency with Claude, Cursor, and internal agent tooling is a second cortex.

“Backend vs. frontend” is dissolving. The agents do the typing. The constraint is product judgment, system design, and the ability to close the loop from problem to shipped feature. Our engineers ship full-stack when the work calls for it.

The pod is the unit of leverage. Two engineers who can hold an entire module in their heads ship more than ten engineers who each own a slice. Specialization across pods, generalist within them. Our engineers raise the ceiling for every pod.

The accountant + engineer loop is the moat. Engineers who sit with controllers and build from what they see compound faster than the ones who don’t.

What Great Looks Like Here

You can learn a finance workflow in the morning and ship it by the end of the day. The ability to quickly understand a domain and translate it into software is the single most important skill on the team.

You think like an owner. You're a current or future founder who scopes your own work, thinks from the customer's perspective, owns decisions, and drives outcomes without waiting for direction.

You solve problems end to end. The team is split vertically, so every engineer owns a part of the product and makes decisions across the LLM pipeline, infrastructure, backend, and UX.

You care about getting it right. A 100% solution beats an 80% one. When something breaks, you go to root cause.

You operate AI coding agents at a high level. You have opinions about which agent to use for which task. You’ve shipped real production code through them.

What You Should Have Done Before

5+ years of software engineering, mostly backend or infrastructure.

Strong backend chops in a modern language — Python, Go, Java, Rust, or similar. Our stack is Python; if your deep experience is elsewhere, ramp fast.

Built hard backend systems — distributed pipelines, transactional or ledger systems, integration platforms, or workflow engines.

Worked at an early-stage startup (pre-seed through Series B).

You’ll Stand Out if

You've worked in fintech, ERP, accounting, payments, banking, treasury, audit, or compliance software.

You've built production AI agents, not just demos.

You've built evaluation frameworks, verification systems, or observability platforms for AI.

You've worked with data warehouses, financial systems, or enterprise integrations.

You've been the engineer customers asked for by name.

The Upside

Exceptional teammates with high ownership and direct access to customers, CFOs, controllers, and founders.

Top-of-market compensation and meaningful early-stage equity.

Full medical, dental, and vision coverage for employees and dependents, plus 401(k) match.

Meals, a stocked NYC office, and the chance to help define an entirely new category: Audit-Ready AI for Finance.

#J-18808-Ljbffr

About Formation Bio

Formation Bio is a tech and AI driven pharma company differentiated by radically more efficient drug development.

Advancements in AI and drug discovery are creating more candidate drugs than the industry can progress because of the high cost and time of clinical trials. Recognizing that this development bottleneck may ultimately limit the number of new medicines that can reach patients, Formation Bio, founded in 2016 as TrialSpark Inc., has built technology platforms, processes, and capabilities to accelerate all aspects of drug development and clinical trials. Formation Bio partners, acquires, or in-licenses drugs from pharma companies, research organizations, and biotechs to develop programs past clinical proof of concept and beyond, ultimately helping to bring new medicines to patients. The company is backed by investors across pharma and tech, including a16z, Sequoia, Sanofi, Thrive Capital, John Doerr, Spark Capital, SV Angel Growth, and others.

You can read more at the following links:

Our Vision for AI in Pharma

Our Current Drug Portfolio

Our Technology & Platform

At Formation Bio, our values are the driving force behind our mission to revolutionize the pharma industry. Every team and individual at the company shares these same values, and every team and individual plays a key part in our mission to bring new treatments to patients faster and more efficiently.

About the Position

Clinical trials are where drug development actually gets slow and expensive. Sites take months to activate. Data arrives late, in fragments, from a dozen systems and vendors that don't talk to each other. People spend their weeks reconciling spreadsheets instead of making decisions. The Trial Execution team exists to fix that, and this role is a senior seat on it.

The constraint that makes this interesting: our trials run in a regulated space. Systems that touch patient safety or trial integrity are GxP-relevant, which means computer system validation, 21 CFR Part 11, audit trails, traceability, and a real burden of proof that the software does what it claims. Most engineers treat that as a wall. We think it's a design problem — and we think the companies that figure out how to run AI inside those constraints, rather than around them, will develop drugs faster than anyone else. We're looking for someone who finds that genuinely exciting rather than merely tolerable.

You'll build the systems that run active trials: integrations with EDC and other clinical systems, site selection and activation, clinical data flows, monitoring and signal detection, timeline reconciliation across CROs and vendors. Increasingly that work is agentic — agents reading source data directly to surface discrepancies, signals, and tasks that a human would otherwise have hunted for by hand. Designing that so it's auditable, provenance-tracked, and appropriately human-in-the-loop is the hard and interesting part of the job.

As a Senior Software Engineer II, you'll be a senior individual contributor and the technical owner of a meaningful slice of our Trial Execution platform. You'll drive work across multiple quarters, from identifying the opportunity and shaping the technical approach through shipping and operating differentiated software used in active trials. You'll partner directly with Clinical Operations, Data Management, Regulatory, QA, Data Engineering, and Infrastructure to develop the systems, integrations, data flows, and controls required to put that software into production. You will bring enough familiarity with regulated delivery to identify potential GxP implications early and engage the right QA and validation experts.

Responsibilities

Drive and own the design, delivery, and operation of differentiated production software used in live clinical trials, from site startup and activation through data collection, monitoring, and close-out.

Bring together clinical, regulatory, data, and infrastructure partners to resolve cross-functional dependencies and take software from technical design through validated use in active trials.

Build within a validated SDLC: partner with QA and CSV experts to translate validation requirements into traceable, testable software, and improve the engineering workflows that make compliant delivery efficient and predictable.

Design and ship AI-native trial execution capabilities — agents and pipelines that read clinical and operational source data to surface signals, discrepancies, and tasks — with the provenance, audit trails, and human review that a regulated context requires.

Build integrations across the clinical systems and vendor landscape (EDC, CTMS, eTMF, CRO and lab data feeds, safety systems), and turn fragmented inputs into a coherent, queryable picture of a trial.

Own the trial-specific domain logic and software built on clinical data, partnering with Data Engineering on shared ingestion, orchestration, warehouse, quality, and governance capabilities that clinical teams can trust and that stand up to inspection.

Shift work left. Find the trial activities that traditionally happen sequentially and build the tooling that lets them start earlier or run in parallel.

Develop strong working fluency in the team's regulated context. Recognize when GxP considerations apply, bring QA and validation partners into decisions early, and help translate their requirements into practical engineering approaches.

Set technical direction and raise the bar: review designs, mentor engineers and other builders, and build the guardrails and automation that let the whole organization move fast safely.

About You

7+ years of experience building production software, including hands-on experience shipping software for use in a clinical trial. You are familiar with clinical systems and data flows and understand the operational realities of delivering software into an active trial environment.

Familiarity with software delivery in a regulated or controlled environment, including concepts such as GxP/GCP, computer system validation, requirements traceability, audit trails, electronic signatures, and change control. You do not need to be the organization's regulatory expert, but you should know when these considerations matter and how to work effectively with QA and validation partners.

You see regulation as a design constraint to work within, not a reason systems cannot improve. You can help translate regulatory requirements into software that is both compliant and well engineered.

A strong builder: clean, maintainable code, solid distributed systems and cloud fundamentals (AWS, GCP, or Azure), and the judgment to know when to build for the next five years and when to build for next week.

You build with AI tools daily — LLMs, agentic workflows, retrieval pipelines — and you're actively interested in how to bring them into regulated clinical work responsibly. This is a core part of the role, not a side interest.

Track record of technical ownership at senior scope: multi-quarter efforts, cross-functional dependencies, and designs that other engineers built on.

Excellent communicator with non-engineers. You can sit with a clinical operations lead or a QA director, understand their world, and align on an approach.

Comfortable with ambiguity. Our trial portfolio and our approach both change; the roadmap you inherit will not be the one you finish.

Total Compensation Range: $213,500 - $267,000

CompensationIndividual compensation is determined by several factors, including role scope, geographic location, and skills & experience. Your offer will reflect where you fall within the range based on these considerations. In addition to base salary, we offer equity, comprehensive benefits, and generous perks.

Where We Hire Formation Bio is prioritizing hiring in key hubs, primarily the New York City and Boston metro areas, with a hybrid model requiring 3 days per week in office.
