Clinicians and staff are supported in building life-changing careers while contributing to patient-centered innovation. </p> <h3>Role Description </h3> <p>The Cornea Specialist is a full-time, on-site clinical role based in Rochester, MN, focused on providing comprehensive medical and surgical care for patients with corneal and anterior segment conditions. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting patient consultations, performing detailed corneal examinations, interpreting diagnostic imaging, and developing individualized treatment plans. The role involves performing corneal and anterior segment procedures such as keratoplasty, refractive surgery, and other advanced interventions, while coordinating care with multidisciplinary teams across ophthalmology and related specialties. The Cornea Specialist will participate in resident and fellow education, contribute to clinical research or quality improvement initiatives, and engage in scholarly activities aligned with Mayo Clinic’s academic mission. The position also includes maintaining accurate documentation, adhering to evidence-based practice guidelines, and supporting continuous improvement in patient safety and outcomes. </p> <h3>Qualifications </h3> <ul> <li>Completed ophthalmology residency and fellowship training in cornea and external disease or anterior segment; eligibility for medical licensure in Minnesota. </li> <li>Board certification or board eligibility in ophthalmology, with demonstrated expertise in diagnosing and managing corneal, ocular surface, and anterior segment disorders. </li> <li>Proficiency in corneal and anterior segment surgical procedures, including keratoplasty, lamellar techniques, and refractive surgery, with strong microsurgical skills. </li> <li>Ability to interpret corneal imaging and diagnostics (e.g., topography, tomography, anterior segment OCT) and integrate findings into treatment planning. </li> <li>Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with patients, families, and multidisciplinary care teams in a high-acuity academic environment. </li> <li>Commitment to teaching and mentoring residents, fellows, and other learners; interest in academic pursuits such as clinical research or quality improvement. </li> <li>Demonstrated dedication to patient-centered care, ethical practice, cultural humility, and respect for diversity in patient and colleague populations. </li> <li>Organizational and time-management skills to balance clinical responsibilities, documentation, and academic or scholarly activities. </li> </ul> <p></p> #J-18808-Ljbffr
