<p></p><p>Openings as of 7/9/2026 </p> <p>Medical Assistant Specialist JobID: 4601 </p> <ul> <li>Position Type: Student Support Services </li> <li>Date Posted: 5/29/2026 </li> <li>Location: Student Support Services </li> </ul> <p>LEARN, southeastern Connecticut's Regional Educational Service Center, invites candidates to apply for <b>Medical Assistant Specialist </b> openings at our Ocean Avenue LEARNing Academy in New London, Connecticut. </p> <h3>General Scope of Responsibilities </h3> <p>To provide appropriate school-based services and assist with the physical needs of students enrolled in the LEARN Special Education Programs. </p> <h3>Relationship within the Organization </h3> <p>This person is directly responsible to the Special Education Teacher and the LEARN Nursing Supervisor and works closely with the LEARN nurses, BCBA/BCABA, Coordinator and SSS administration. </p> <h3>Responsibilities </h3> <ul> <li>Assist students with disabilities in participating in activities of daily living such as dressing, eating, hygiene, managing bathroom needs and other health responsibilities. </li> <li>Review, understand and implement assigned duties pertaining to the individualized healthcare plans. </li> <li>Operate medical equipment such as Hoyer lifts, standing frames, and wheelchairs. </li> <li>Assist students on/off the bus daily. </li> <li>Implement all strategies utilized in the overall curriculum plan, as based on the IEP, related to inclusion as appropriate, individual work in a school setting, including collecting and monitoring data, interpreting the data in conjunction with LEARN staff, and modifying the program as needed for each child. </li> <li>Prepare instructional setting and materials for student programs. </li> <li>Supervise and assist students in all settings specified on their educational plan. </li> <li>Establish as fully as possible a supportive relationship with the student(s) while maintaining the role as an authority figure. </li> <li>Pass competencies and utilize approved de-escalation and restraint procedures. </li> <li>Lift up to 50 lbs when necessary, including for purposes of transferring students to change position and personal care needs. </li> <li>Utilize Program Change procedures including communication with teacher and BCBA regarding special information about individual students (as needed). </li> <li>Implement behavior change programs as written in all areas of student need including educational and behavioral programs. </li> <li>Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students/staff. </li> <li>Be punctual and consistent in meeting daily time schedules throughout the school year. </li> <li>Work effectively and cooperatively with other staff members/families. </li> <li>Participate in professional development activities and demonstrate competencies related to training. </li> <li>Attend team and staff meetings as appropriate. </li> <li>Perform other duties as appropriately assigned by the Student Support Services Administration. </li> </ul> <h3>Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements </h3> <ul> <li>Must have earned an associate degree or higher OR achieve a passing score on the ETS ParaPathways Assessment. </li> <li>First aide/CPR training required. </li> <li>Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Medical Assistant (MA) certificate or equivalent training preferred. </li> <li>Experience working with children and/or children with autism or emotional/behavioral challenges and their families preferred. </li> </ul> <p>Qualified applicants should apply online at (application can be found under the Student Support Services category).
