Financial Analyst III - Treasury Business Unit Controller

Candidates who require sponsorship now or in the future—including all F‑1 visa holders (CPT, OPT, and STEM OPT)—will not be considered for this role.</p><h3>Work Model</h3><p>This is a hybrid position requiring 4 days in‑office per week at One M&amp;T Plaza Buffalo, NY only.</p><h3>Overview</h3><p>Conduct highly technical research, prepare/analyze/review financial, tax and/or regulatory information to provide to senior management, regulators, internal/external audit and other interested parties; adhere to internal controls while ensuring the quality of data reported.</p><h3>Primary Responsibilities</h3><ul><li>Mentor junior team members.</li><li>Resolve problems and interpret data, perform or review variance analysis, and ensure timely submission of reports.</li><li>Provide cross‑training/support to new team members.</li><li>Prepare complex financial schedules, reconciliations and reports, including bank regulatory reports, SEC reporting, shareholder and Board of Directors reports, and internal management reports.</li><li>Maintain strong knowledge of applicable tax regulations.</li><li>Evaluate situations using multiple sources of information and suggest insightful conclusions.</li><li>Conduct data integrity testing, general ledger entries, and ensure adherence to GAAP, SEC disclosure requirements and bank regulatory requirements.</li><li>Review the work of junior staff.</li><li>Participate in special projects, improve existing processes, and interact with business line personnel to communicate results to department management.</li><li>Ensure success through shared responsibility of team workload to achieve department/project objectives.</li><li>Participate in training and development opportunities across Finance and the Bank.</li><li>Understand, adhere to, and contribute to the improvement/timeliness of deliverables and process efficiency.</li><li>Adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite.</li><li>Identify risk‑related issues needing escalation to management.</li><li>Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&amp;T Bank brand.</li><li>Maintain M&amp;T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points and any issues raised by external regulators.</li><li>Complete other related duties as assigned.</li></ul><h3>Supervisory/Managerial Responsibilities</h3><p>May train junior staff.</p><h3>Education and Experience Required</h3><ul><li>Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3 years’ experience; OR associate’s degree and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in accounting, auditing, operations or financial institutions.</li><li>Comprehensive understanding of finance, accounting and/or regulatory reporting concepts, business operations and/or bank products, and knowledge of the banking industry.</li><li>High level of PC competencies (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access; data visualization or querying applications a plus).</li><li>Detail oriented with advanced problem‑solving skills.</li><li>Good verbal and written communication skills.</li><li>Demonstrated ability to multi‑task while prioritizing workload.</li></ul><h3>Experience Strongly Preferred</h3><ul><li>Treasury</li><li>CPA</li><li>Derivatives</li><li>ALM</li><li>Financial modeling</li><li>Hedging</li></ul><h3>Preferred Education and Experience</h3><ul><li>Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting or a related field.</li><li>Financial Services Industry experience.</li></ul><h3>Compensation</h3><p>The pay range for this position is $74,600.00 - $124,400.00 Annual (USD).</p><h3>Location</h3><p>Buffalo, New York, United States of America</p><h3>Equal Employment Opportunity Statement</h3><p>M&amp;T Bank is unwavering when it comes to providing equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants without regard to race, color, national origin, religion, ethnicity, sex, gender identity, age, disability, citizenship, pregnancy, veteran status, military status, marital status, sexual orientation, genetic information or any other characteristic protected under applicable federal, state or local laws.
